Why are Glasgow and Edinburgh collaborating?

"If the cities don't get it right, the Scottish Government's targets for economic growth will not be met" (Chris Brodie - Slims Consulting)

Cites matter. Their importance as drivers of regional and national economies is increasingly recognised. The Scottish Government's Economic Strategy highlights that collaboration between Glasgow and Edinburgh can make an important contribution to national sustainable economic growth. At a time of economic downturn, the economies of Glasgow and Edinburgh have a particularly important role to play in meeting the Scottish Government’s target of raising the economic growth rate to the UK level by 2011.

Collaboration between Glasgow and Edinburgh provides a critical mass and scale of opportunity that allows each city to share respective asset bases in order to attract higher order functions and compete in high level global markets. Collaboration can enhance the cities’ ability to attract investment and talent into a scaled-up area of economic opportunity through distinct - yet complementary - city assets and diverse appeal. Cities also have an important role to play in sustainable development and the low carbon economy.
