innovation eg

If so, we would like to invite you to join us for a really exciting project – designed to encourage new ideas and stimulate learning and collaborative thinking.

  • are you passionate about tourism?
  • do you enjoy a challenge?
  • are you looking to be inspired?
  • do you have a thirst for new learning experiences?
  • do you demonstrate commitment, enthusiasm and just want to give anything a go?
  • have you been employed in the tourism industry for less than 10 years?

If you answer ‘yes’ to most or all of these questions, then this is the project for you!

innovation eg is a new project, part of the Glasgow Edinburgh Collaboration initiative, aimed at encouraging new, collaborative thinking from young professionals in Scottish tourism and hospitality, coached and mentored by experienced leaders in the industry to develop a range of creative concepts that would help attract new visitors to both cities within key product areas – food, whisky, culture, retail and adventure.

You will be involved in creating and developing innovative new products or services within a key product area. Throughout this process, you will be supported and even challenged by your mentor to help you and your team to develop a winning concept!

Why get involved?

As a rising star in Scottish tourism, this is your opportunity to:

  • develop creative new ideas for the benefit of Edinburgh, Glasgow and the wider tourism industry in Scotland
  • be coached, stimulated and challenged by leaders in the tourism industry
  • enjoy being part of a forum of like-minded professionals working in an atmosphere of creativity, integrity and mutual respect
  • develop transferable skills in ideas development and how to develop these into realistic business planning
  • enhance your interpersonal communications and networking skills
  • be in with a chance to win fabulous prizes including learning journeys abroad or in Scotland, weekend breaks, meals, champagne and much more!
  • be inspired!

The innovation eg project has three simple steps:

  1. innovation eg ideas exchange
  2. date: Monday 25 February 08
    venue: Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow

This creative event will bring together young people involved in tourism from Edinburgh and Glasgow. During a fun and interactive day, with facilitated brainstorming around the five product areas, you will form project teams with like-minded people and begin to develop a creative concept - supported by the mentors - focused on the visitor experience.

  3. innovation eg collaboration
  4. timing: March, April 08

This next phase is about developing the concept further. Working with your team, and supported by your mentor, you will explore key factors related to your project concept. Using a template provided by the innovation eg team, you will consider available market research, brand positioning, competition, marketing, product development and financial viability. Towards the end of April, all concept proposals will be submitted to the innovation eg team for evaluation against set criteria and a short list of five projects will be selected to be presented at the final event….

  5. innovation eg event
  6. date: Friday 23 May 08
    venue: Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh

The five shortlisted projects will be presented to a panel of star experts at this exciting event, where the audience of your colleagues and people from Scottish tourism will vote to decide the winning concept.

The winning team will be awarded an international learning journey and a cash prize of £3000 to go towards developing the feasibility of the concept. The runners up will receive a range of prizes including learning journeys within Scotland, weekend breaks, champagne and much, much more!
