Rail link “world class” aim

Network Rail, the organisation responsible for maintaining and upgrading rail infrastructure has outlined its aspirations for the Glasgow-Edinburgh mainline to become a “world class” route. Read more…

These upgrades complement a comprehensive package of improvements to Glasgow-Edinburgh connections announced in 2007. These will come on-stream in the next few years.

Cities top wealth tables

Glasgow and Edinburgh are in the UK’s top 10 when in comes to wealth creation per head, according to research by accountancy firm Campbell Dallas. Indeed, Edinburgh outstrips even London to top the table of major cities. Glasgow ranks seventh. Read more…

Glasgow-Edinburgh collaboration director, Laura Gordon, has added her voice to calls for a fast, direct rail connection from Glasgow to Edinburgh Park. Quoted in the Sunday Herald, she said, “it simply doesn’t make sense for this area, which is Scotland’s largest economic centre after the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, not to be properly serviced by transport links”. Innovation eg - the competition to encourage new ideas in tourism from young professionals with support and encouragement from industry mentors, came to a conclusion on the 23 May with the Final Event and judging at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.

Five shortlisted teams, made up of individuals working in the tourism sector across the central belt, went head to head to pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts…

Glasgow launches bid to become City of Music

On 3 June a delegation of Scots travelled to Paris to officially lodge their bid for Glasgow to achieve UNESCO City of Music status. If successful in its bid to UNESCO, the United Nations’ educational, scientific and cultural body, Glasgow will join an exclusive group of world cities who have been inducted into its designated Creative Cities network.
